Another creative post November 29, 2011

Autumn update in creative-land. And just wanting to share my thoughts in regards to my creative outlets.
Back in early October, Steve and I took a trip up to Hudson, NY. We wanted to visit the Volunteer Firefighters Museum and to drop in on the Nursing Home that was on the same property. It was a very enjoyable experience to see all types of apparatus, and some were so old, they had to be enclosed!
After we took the tour, we walked up into the lobby of the nursing home. A brief wait till the weekend receptionist returned from lunch, and I presented 6 lap-ghans to her as a thank you for taking such good care of the friend of mine.  As it turns out, she said to us that there were 70 residents that actually need things like this, that they attend parades, but get chilled easily, that the blankets 'fit the bill'. Steve said "Oh, she can make more blankets, and we'll bring them up here personally!"  OMG. So, now I can't turn down such an opportunity to do something really great, and something I believe in. As of tonight, I have 6 blankets made up. I'm doing the 3-stranded V stitched throws, drastically modified. It works up really quick, but we may have an issue to space, so we may need to rent a Navigator to transport all these blankets up!
I'm also keen on keeping the top part of the elderly warm, so they may get granny vests, too. I got plenty of leftover stuff I can use.
So this is really exciting.
Oh!  I also had been commissioned to make a queen-sized blanket for the same friend and his wife. That I finished in a month, all simple Grannies and lacy crosses. I call it Vintage Purple Garden. It's REALLY pretty. I do have a sample!
It just look so professional to me, and yet homemade. I'll take another picture of it when it's on their bed.

Meanwhile, it is time for me to get back to work on the blankets. So far in total, I made 12, only 58 more to go.

A work in progress

For the past two years, I have worked on my good friend Mark's colossal blanket. It's HUGE! But it's finished, and waiting for his birthday. (10-10-11)
so, I posted it on Facebook, and I got HUGE raves! Plus an order! It's the biggest compliment when you are asked to make something wonderful for someone, and get paid for the work.

July 2011

Life has been busy. I've been learning more and new designs and patterns.
I'm thinking of sending a baby blanket design to Crochet World and my CGOA Crochet! It came out so cute!  It's a pretty shell pattern, in pastels and white yarn in a sportweight. But first, I need to take the pictures after I wash and block my designs.

Completed another order. This looks so cute, and customer wants extra literature to pass out to those who REALLY liked the design! I'll be adding a BONUS GIFT to their order, for mom, she'll get my quick-n-easy fingerless gloves using the same color as the Red Heart Bikini.

Now on to new projects, and plug along with my WIP projects

2011 New Business Blog

I am currently reading up on selling crafts on-line and Craft, Inc. to develop a business plan for my crafts business. This is my New Year's promise to myself. No, I don't go solely by resolutions, because that can easily be broken. Developing a new plan for Threads-N-Strands is very important.

I also wish to develop two more plans.

One is for becoming an associate for a LYS or one of the big box stores, here, along with a resume, I think it would be refreshing to post my business plans for the targeted shops.

Another business plan will be as a freelance clerk. Resume's are still ok, but to show a plan on how to make everyone's life easier would be a dynamic show of interest for the company.

So, getting back to TNS. In-between my crocheting, I'll be reading, a lot. But also tend to my Facebook page, Tweets, and ravelry.
I will also be keeping a calendar. This calendar will post craft fairs I'll be setting up a booth for. This I'll keep on Facebook. And on Ravelry, I'll form a new group for customers to visit.
I am thinking of Intuit, but they snag you with get a few months free, then you have to start paying. Hmmmm. Well, ok, I'll make my own website, just not now.
I do know so far, I have Hallockville Museum Farm's Fleece & Fiber Festival and Fall Festival. F&F is in May. I plan on making wonderful cotton goodies for the bath & kitchen. I will also dedicate into making pretty white baby things as well. I'll also spend the summer months prepping for my booth. I plan to add hats this year. Shawls, too. And low, reasonable prices.  Especially for babies and for kids who love fun things.

Anyway, best get going here. I got a custom order to complete, and I promised her it would be finished over the weekend.

Till then,
Happy stitching!www.ravelry.com/threadsnstrands
